Tube 2010: RSA presents two new sawing centers

Various concepts for a reduction of piece costs

The most important key figures of last year's production of crude steel and tubes are coming to the same thing: drastic collapses on the global market increase in capacity and production in China. It has already been noticeable in the last years and is spreading now: China is pressing at low prices its excess production into exports, particularly in the field of seamless drawn tubes. And in this field the European Union is a very important market.

However, when looking at the quarterly figures for the years 2009 and 2010 a clear strengthening of the market recovery can be recognized. This is among other things reflected in the tube production and further processing by the increased willingness to invest. Branch experts see an urgent need for action in the modernization of production facilities helping to effectively face the pressure on piece costs.

Reduction of piece costs in the cut - to - length production
of tubes and sections

The company RSA Entgrat- u. Trenn-Systeme, a specialist for the cut - to - length production of tubes, sections and for the preliminary preparation, presented at the Tube 2010 three concepts aiming at the lasting reduction of piece costs. This includes two new sawing centers RSA developed for various needs of the market.

The first concept for a reduction of piece costs is based on an increased productivity by means of a drastic increase in output performance realized with the sawing center RASACUT MXS. In triple cut the sawing center achieves - depending on the workpiece dimensions - an output of up to 11,000 pieces per hour. The sawing center is designed for tube diameters of 6 mm up to 20 mm in triple cut and 8 mm up to 45 mm in a single cut. These dimensions can often be found in the automotive industry - with special demands on accuracy, surface quality and purity. Examples of application are line tubes and visible elements in the interior, e.g. headrest tubes. Therefore, the sawing center RASACUT MXS can be configured or expanded according to the requirements of the customer. Modules are available for deburring or chamfering, for 100 % control of the fixed lengths as well as for cleaning and stacking.

Concerning the sawing center, the feeding of the workpieces as well as the transfer to followup processes is effected via NC axes with speeds up to 5 m/sec. The reliable handling before, during and after the sawing process ensures an accuracy of +/- 0.2 mm and a careful treatment of the surfaces and as a result chrome plating can be done afterwards without any problems. Of importance for suppliers to the automotive industry: after sawing each workpiece is processed and measured. In this way a real 100 % control is ensured according to the OEM specifications and standards.

The second concept for a reduction of piece costs is the sawing center RASACUT EC. Companies going into the mass production of fixed lengths are the target application group of this development. In many companies the daily number of pieces is on a level where only band saws or semiautomatic circular saws pay off. Up to now many companies of this size have been unable to amortize investment costs for automated sawing centers over an acceptable period. The RASACUT EC was designed with regard to an attractive price without making concessions to the robustness of the machine and the quality of the saw cut. Round tubes of 8 mm up to 80 mm diameter and rectangular tubes with a cross section of 10 mm x 15 mm up to 70 mm x 80 mm and a wall thickness between 1 mm and 6 mm are automatically singled from the tube bundle, fed to the saw and transferred to followup processing modules. The fixed lengths of 20 mm up to 3,000 mm are sawn with an accu-racy of +/- 0.1 mm.

The RASACUT EC is designed for a threeshift operation. Due to their construction, all aggregates stand for a high degree of consistency with regard to accuracy, cutting angle and quality of the cut surface.

According to the company the attractive purchase price can be realized due to the standardized equipment of this product line. The other RSA saw types are available for customized solutions. But even the RASACUT EC can be modularly expanded with further processing steps.

Optimum interaction of machine and tool

The third concept for a lasting reduction of piece costs: optimum interaction of machine and tool. Because the selection of the suitable saw blade in combination with the specific tooth geometry and the right cut parameters create the condition for highest productivity and quality. RSA, a systems manufacturer of sawing centers and saw blades, is offering this comprehen-sive know-how. Interested persons can get an idea with a test production under realistic production conditions, free of charge, in the plant at Lüden-scheid.
